Cameron found the below poster in which it outlined a lot of organisations in the local Leeds and West Yorkshire area of which run discounted and affordable studio spaces for art minded people and so we got a few ideas from the poster from which we researched...
Duke Studios
The first organisation that I researched is Duke Studios in the centre of Leeds. Duke studios run an open collaborative art space of which is rented to up and coming art related studios to run from, they offer a range of workspaces and creative studios and offer the service to a wide range of companies from graphic design studios, to advertisement agencies to fashion companies and even acting studios. They strive to offer creative spaces in which designers can create their base and collaborate. They rely on the sense of a community within the place in which people are welcomed and looked after to end with a result of a brilliant creative working space. The only downside to Duke Studios is the fact that the rent is a little over priced and maybe not as in keeping with what a starting up studio would need. It would be a great place to base a studio but is a little out of reach.
Patrick Studios
The next space that we look at was Patrick Studios also in the centre of Leeds. The building is out in the industrial side of the city slightly out of the centre and so it makes the studio space cheaper and more affordable. Another major benefit that this studio offers us in the opening of our first studio space is that online some of the smaller and fancier studio spaces in the city we would be given a small and corporate space but at patrick studios there is the availabilities to have a clean and corporate digital studio space and also a long side it has rough around the edges screen printing and physical printing space and as this is a major part of our business we think that this is necessary for us and more importantly is more related to us in our personalities.
Similarly to Duke studios they pride themselves on the fact that they strive to offer young artists a relaxed and creative environment in which they can base their studios, and pride themselves on the community environment providing everything designers need from a collaboration space and a structured space from which they can develop.
The upside to this choice is that unlike Duke Studios they offer these studios at a much cheaper rent rate meaning it would be much more appropriate for us as a newly opened studio as a studio could cost from £250 at Duke Studios for a small computer space to £250 at patrick studios for a large computer space and a large screen printing facilities.
The decision was very easy to us in the end as the fact that we had fallen in love with patrick studios due to the affordability and all over personality of the organisation we thought it was the perfect place for us to base our studios in and so the decision was made!
